The sass doesn't come, the retort, nothing taking a jab at him at all. He keeps forgetting. This isn't the Bulma that's not but a year younger than him, it's the Bulma from when all he did was yell at her. He can't just make comments like that. He didn't see anything wrong with it but it struck something in her to not say a word to him. He knows from being with her for so long that things only work with sacrifices, both of them had to do that to make it work out in the end. But now he's got to prove to her he'd made those sacrifices for her all over again.
It was hard not to stand there and just tell her to get over it, whatever it was. He really wanted to. But he's got to use his logic over his stubbornness and pride sometimes. He's not sure if she's showering herself in another pity party this time or if whatever bothered her was legitimate. Vegeta's not seeing how she would get a 'woe is Bulma' attitude out of that. And whatever it was it was making her upset and he really isn't taking a liking to it.
He follows her into the kitchen, to come up behind her while she's looking for whatever it is she wanted out of the cupboards, and wrap his arms around her, resting his head on her shoulder. If she decides to yell at him, or punch him in the face, then fine, he can take it. He closes his eyes and breathes out, his way of apologizing for whatever it was that made her feel like that and almost to tell her to stop it, stop feeling the way she did.
