[It's been a few days since Father's Day. And he got a really nice surprise from his daughter that he never thought possible. Bulla training and honing her skills and power, it really meant something to him; so he's flipping his journal open now since Luceti played a large part of it. He's not even angry this time.]

It's come to my attention that a good number of you had a hand in the gift I received over the weekend. I will say I'm impressed- the lot of you have done the impossible with my daughter Bulla and it most certainly paid off. So for that...[His voice trails off, since saying these sorts of things isn't exactly natural to him.] For that I am grateful. I know a good portion of the time we are safe inside this barrier, but you must understand that I worry for her safety regardless.

So I suppose this is the part where I ask something else not so specific. The gift I received was for your Earthling holiday Father's Day. I've never put much stock in such things, but this last weekend certainly has changed my mind about it a little. Is this something you also observe in your own worlds? And if so, what is it that you've done or would do that you would consider worthy of your father?

Oh, right... I guess you wouldn't know, huh? You're too lively to be a dead guy, after all!

I've not killed anyone yet. But Earth and Stars I've wanted to. It won't serve any purpose but to turn people against us when we should be working together, but...[She actually growls in frustration, all her own] there are so many irritating, arrogant, and vile people here.

I just have to take it out on the Third Party when I can.

[Well, that was a nice compliment. It makes him feel a little uncomfortable, but he doesn't show it and instead gives a sneer.]

You can start by finding a handkerchief for yourself. You've got something coming out there. [He indicates angrily to his nose. Gross, Lee.]

What do you mean skirts are ok. The last time I checked you were male, why are you wearing skirts?

[Vegeta can barely stand to wear pink, let alone skirts...

Trunks on the other hand, that's a different story.]

[Anyone who doubted Cliff's capacity of making filters is suddenly met with an unhackable one, locking him and Vegeta off in a private corner of the journals. This was territory that he didn't like.]

Dammit, Vegeta. Don't ask me that!

[Because he wouldn't have allowed something like that to happen on his watch. And, if it did, then he was going to go down trying to fix it himself-- or, at least make sure the rest of the crew was safe as he dealt with the problem.]

And why not? It's a valid question. I'll even make you a deal, you answer my question and I'll tell you what I would do if I were you. [His answer is pretty easy though, since Vegeta feels that this is a black and white answer.]

[He huffed in obvious irritation.]

...

Look. If you wanna get heavy on me then we're going out for a few beers. Now.

Fine by me. I haven't gone out in quite a few months anyhow. Meet you there. [He cracks a grin, he's never managed to get to Cliff like that and it was sort of refreshing.]

[Simple, straight, and too the point. Cliff closed up his book and kicked it under the bed for retrieval later. As it stood, he didn't want to look at it for a good while, not while he was in that kind of mood. He took a few moments to cool his head before scrawling out a quick note to Fayt about his whereabouts, as was his custom when he woke and started his day well before his roommate was awake.

He was there as quickly as he was able. Community House 5, being at the far western end of town, was a hike away from the plaza. It wasn't a huge distance, but it was a distance.

Vegeta would beat him to the bar. At least the heat gave Cliff a new topic to whine about, and a perfect excuse to order a cold one as soon as he sidled up to the bar.]

[He too, closed his own journal and laid it on the coffee table in front of the couch he was sitting on at his home at House 29; and left immediately off to the bar to meet Cliff.

Of course he beats Cliff there, flying has its merits and there's no better way to travel.

So he's sitting at the bar already by the time Cliff walks in, already sipping on his own drink.]

I wasn't sure if you were going to show.

...Well then. Sounds as if you've got yourself an unattainable goal. [Vegeta, that's mean.] What makes you think you've even got a chance.

[He's not even going to comment about the Wonderbolts themselves. That sounds inane and ridiculous to him.]

Now it's all coming together. So, boy, were you the one that turned the gravity on for her then? [He still hasn't found out who trained with the gravity on with her yet.]

[Cliff snorted in amusement and took a grateful sip when his drink arrived.]

There's no way I'm not gonna arrive when drinks are on the house!

[He raised his glass in a silent toast. Amen to the guys who invented beer!]

Oh, uh. No. [A beat] You can do that?

Yeah. That's right. Too lively to have ever been to Other World. And it's going to stay that way. [He's going to leave that one alone. Haru really doesn't need to know.]

I'm not sure if I could handle meeting your dad if I ever did go there. [You're assuming too much Vegeta. You, going to Heaven, yeah we'll see about that.]

[Doesn't Saori realize she just described Vegeta in a nutshell?]

Why stop at just the Third Party, if one of them bothers you so, just punch them right in the gut. [That's what he does.]

Because my previous life had one! And I had to channel Avatar Kyoshi, so wearing her clothing really helped out!

We're talking about music, but... sometimes people become angry, or say snide things, or something like that, even so.

[And while she's gotten better at withstanding that, it's still never a pleasant feeling, to know you're being whispered about and resented.]

[Right. Still pegging him as a Kevin type now, a Kevin type being the school quarterback and all-around jock. The brainless jock type, to be more specific.]

So you're one of those mixed martial arts guys? [Yeah, mostly ignoring the whole to-the-death thing, because she's pretty sure most people say that just to sound cool. Even the ones who could probably do it if they joined the army.]

[Amen indeed. He glances at the raised drink, not raising his own. Instead he ignores the toast and just drinks a little more of his beer.] Well, why am I not surprised. So how many do you have to have before you start talking?

[Because if it was a lot, he could make this a game. He does enjoy winning.]

Yes? And you can't? Didn't you just say you weren't entirely human? Even humans can train in higher gravity. [Is he serious?]

[Nope.]

It would complicate matters for me, and it would sour my time here with harsh feelings. And there's no real challenge in beating a mortal into the dust.

[There you go reminding him. He had just managed to formulate his thoughts and was working on a game plan at that point. Cliff glanced sideways at Vegeta and took another sip.]

I ain't a coward, man. But I'm also not gonna let people die if I can help it. That question...it ain't something I can answer out of context. You deal with a few hundred good men and women on a ship, all of them close enough to almost be a second family, and you might get my point a little. When they've all got your trust and respect...

[Another sip. He didn't want to talk about this stuff to people that weren't involved.]

Well. You've gotta make the best decisions for everyone. You're not the only one who counts when everyone looks to you for answers.

[It was the closest he was going to come to admitting that he was the man who founded Quark, the notorious 'terrorist' group that aided everyone-- feddie and non-feddie alike. It was the closest he was going to come to admitting that he was still respected as being on the level of Captain with his crew, even though he officially passed the baton.

Another sip. Dammit, Vegeta...]

I'm not gonna give up on anyone so easy because anyone you can trust is someone worth protecting, but I'm also not gonna sacrifice everyone else in the crew and their families back home. It ain't an easy decision to make either, but someone's gotta...or else, no one would trust eachother anymore.

So you Avatars reincarnate. Interesting. I'm sure you could have done that without the use of wearing the clothing of a dead Avatar. [Wait a second]

Hold on a minute, does that mean that Korra is a reincarnation of you or are you a reincarnation of her? [Please tell him she came afterwards, because UGH SHE IS SO ANNOYING AND HE CANNOT STAND HER.]

And why would you care? Sounds like jealousy to me. I think they need to get over it. [AT LEAST HE'S NOT BEING A HYPOCRITE ANYMORE ABOUT THAT...]
