8th Taunt | Video

[The video snaps on to reveal a parlor, a doorway behind the young blue-haired girl leading into the living room of the home that it had been built onto. A faint crackle of a fireplace resonates throughout the room, chairs positioned around a central table. The location of many a Fashion Club meeting, its use today was for something similar, but certainly not of the norm. Today, an important announcement was to be had, as well as an example to fashion that everyone should take note of.]

Hey everyone! I just wanted to show off something I made for a minute. Also, thanks so much to Hikaru for the sewing and fashion design lessons. If anyone wants something really gorgeous, you should totally go to Hikaru and Kaoru.

[She motions off-screen, although the person she’s trying to send some sort of signal to isn’t in view yet.]

Presenting...my first experiment in men’s fashion!

[She makes a little face when her signal isn’t responded to right away. Someone has missed his cue.]

C’mon Dad! You promised!

Alright, alright.

[From the side, he walks in, not quite looking dejected, but pretty close- hands in his pockets and looking away grouchily as he stands next to her. There’s an obvious bit of embarrassment in Vegeta’s face, but then again, it could be worse. And well, he did think he looked pretty good in the outfit she’s made for him.]

Thanks, Dad.

[Bulla is proud of her first successful attempt at making men’s clothing that doesn’t fit weirdly. She managed to go right from design, to making a simple pattern, and this is the end result. The outfit in question is a white turtleneck that’s fitted without being skin tight, complete with khaki pants, a belt, and a necklace.]

I didn’t make the necklace or the belt, but I did make the sweater and pants myself. So, Dad? How does it feel? It’s comfortable, right?

[He looks over to her, flushing lightly at the question. What, he’s got to give his opinion on this too? He didn’t sign up for this, at least he didn’t remember agreeing to such a thing. He was supposed to wear the darn thing, be done with it, and go about his business.]

It’s a shirt and pants, and they fit, I guess. I don’t see what’s so special about it.

[He folds his arms over his chest, the feel of the necklace irritating him further. He’s never worn one in his life and he can’t believe this was the start of it. Was this really fashionable for males to wear on Earth? How absurd.]

[Bulla whirls around with her hands on her hips.]

Dad! You don’t have to make it sound like it’s a chore. You could have just agreed that it’s comfortable.

Ah-! Fine, fine! [He picks at the sleeve uncomfortably.] None of it is uncomfortable to wear, and this turtleneck actually fits me in the shoulders and arms for a change, unlike that ridiculous clothing the Earthlings make back at home. There, is that what you were looking for?

[Bulla smiles and nods. She’s not going to expect him to talk about how great the clothes are. Just a little bit of public praise rather than grumping about it not being special is all she really wanted. The fact that he’s willing to support her interest is the more important thing overall.]

Thanks, Dad. That’s much better. I think we’re almost done here. But first I want to know what everyone thinks of my first try at men’s fashion! Your feedback is appreciated, everyone.

((OoC:  Responses will come from both Vegeta and Bulla!))

[Bulla spots her father on the couch, looking out the window. Well, it doesn't look like he's doing anything important, or that he's particularly stressed out, so this is probably a good time to ask. She can use herself for designing women's clothes and she's certain she could talk her mother into helping with this easily enough, too. Men's clothing is trickier, though.]

Hey Dad? Can I get your help with something?

Well, I've been learning how to sew and design clothing. I've been doing pretty well with women's clothing, but I want to be able to design both women's and men's.

[She presents her sketchbook, showing the sweater and pants design.]

I've got the finalized design for what I want to try out and the materials...buuut I need you to put on what I've made so far so I can tailor it to fit you.

Mannequin? No. I want you to be a model, and you'll get a nice new outfit out of it for your trouble. It's comfortable fabric. Not itchy at all.

[Because part of being a good designer is being able to design something appropriate to the person in question. Anything designed for her father has to be comfortable and something he can move unhindered in, or he won't wear it outside of very rare special occasions.]

You won't have to walk down a runway or anything. I just want to show my work over the journals. You can just stand there with your hands at your sides or in your pockets and that's fine. No special poses. And before that, I'll need you to try it on so I can mark it for alterations to get it to fit just right.

[She doesn't see what the big deal is. In her opinion, she's not asking him to do anything embarrassing.]

It's just normal fashion-designer stuff. You and mom want me to have a career when I'm done school, right?

It would be the design in my sketchbook. Complete with khaki pants. Ones that are actually stylish, mind you, but khakis. It's a sweater, and pants, and then I'll probably get a belt at the clothing store to go with it, since I don't know how to do leather or metal work.

[And yes, she totally had to throw the career thing at him. He doesn't want her to be a spoiled rich girl forever, does he?]

I've just got the fabric in my room, and the pants and sweater are about three quarters done already. I just need to tailor them to fit you and then do the collar on the sweater.

It shouldn't take more than fifteen to twenty minutes.

[She'll probably take less than that, but it's best to give him a longer estimate just in case. Then he can't complain if she does take a full fifteen to twenty minutes. Besides, she does want to be careful with pinning things just right.]

I'll have to mark and pin things on the clothing so I know exactly how to alter it.

[personal profile] fashionably_strong 2014-02-06 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, let's get started. As long as you're holding still while I'm pinning the clothes, you won't have to worry about getting poked.

[She goes to retrieve the sweater. It looks quite oversized at the moment, but she made it deliberately large so she could take it in as needed.]

Oh, it's supposed to be loose to start with, so there's plenty of material left to take in to get it to the right size. I measured one of your shirts that I know fits and allowed for extra inches from there.

[Did you need a reminder of how your little girl can be benevolently sneaky from time to time, Vegeta? Because there it is.

She takes out the measuring tape and begins working, measuring around the waist first, then pausing to write down the measurement.
]

fashionably_strong: (doe eyes - is it time to go shopping yet)

[personal profile] fashionably_strong 2014-02-09 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm sure some Earthlings will just buy whatever sort of fits and settle for that. You never liked wearing super baggy things and you've always had trouble finding stuff that fits properly around your shoulders and arms.

[Hence going sleeveless so often.]

Measuring means having stuff that fits exactly how it's supposed to, and if I write it all down, that means it won't take nearly as long next time I make you something.

[She takes some sewing chalk to make markings on the back of the sweater where she's going to take it in, and pins it accordingly.]

I am watching what I'm doing! Why are you moving around when you know I've got pins right here?

[Nope, sorry. She's not taking blame for this. A grown man with the degree of physical discipline he's got should be capable of holding still while she's pinning the garment.]
fashionably_strong: (attitude)

[personal profile] fashionably_strong 2014-02-13 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You realize it's going to take longer if you don't hold still, right? If you can train for hours almost every single day, you can keep from fidgeting while I work for fifteen to twenty minutes. If you need to change position for a few seconds, then tell me first so I won't accidentally poke you with a needle.

[Even as she's talking, she's carefully working, pinning the garment in place.]

fashionably_strong: (chillin)

[personal profile] fashionably_strong 2014-02-17 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, she knows. She's being careful. As long as he knows he needs to hold still, there's no risk of being poked.]

Fashion design takes a lot of planning and more work than you'd think. Drawing a design in a sketchbook is just the very beginning. You draw a whole lot of designs and then pick the best ones to actually make. The next step is creating a pattern on some thin paper, and then getting the fabric.

[Pin, pin, pin. She might still be a beginner at going from start to finish but she's made a great deal of progress when it comes to basic alterations and measuring.]

Then you pin the pattern to the fabric, cut out the pieces, stitch them together, and it's only then that you get to this stage and alter the clothes to fit the model.

Well, maybe not for the rest of my life. I know Trunks would rather be working on inventions for Capsule Corp than running it as the company president. So if I start my own fashion design business, I'll get experience running a business. Then I can take over as Capsule Corp's president sometime after I turn thirty.

[How many years after thirty depends on how determined Trunks is to focus on inventions and how occupied she is with her own projects.]
