[He'd thought a lot about this, long and hard. But even with all the evidence presented to him over the past year and a half, that still was never enough for him. He didn't want to rely on anything else to fight, he had his own power and his own strength. But being caught like he did so many times on the draft by shifters, relying solely on his own natural strength to survive- there had just been too many close calls.

And he had needed help more than once. How much that ate at his mind was unfathomable except to a few. One day no one was going to be there to help him, even if he hated the very idea of needing help. And if he wasn't ready, where would he be? Put into a position that he allowed for himself to be in, to die. To be sacrificed, like he was already by that bomb the cultists used on them. And next time, he wouldn't be so lucky and he knew it. He still had his reservations about contacting the spirits. But, he felt as if he couldn't avoid it much longer.

Too many what ifs. What if even something so small from the spirits would have helped him? He was sick of it, sick of knowing that might be the only thing he could rely on against their enemy. The only thing that worked when all his other powers were disabled. But even so, there's still more he wanted to know. Because if there's anything he hates, it's wasting time on things that are pointless.]

[The video feed flickers on, revealing the face of the prince, looking as serious as ever. He gets straight to the point.]

I must know. For those of you who are in contact with the spirits here, what use do you find in their power? Especially in combat. I might even have the patience to listen to a story or two regarding that, as I find it incredibly important in this matter. [He glances off to the side, knowing how this goes in Luceti.]

I know some of you would prefer to speak in person about such things. I'll be at Mythoria Café later tonight. But I won't stay long.

[As always, he's easily found. During the day, either at House 29 or the Battle Dome training, with both his sword or with his abilities. He does keep his word, appearing at Mythoria Café after he's done training and showered for the day.]

[He sits back in his chair, not pleased with that response. He knew that the spirits could do basic things, but he's looking for more...]

Can't you be creative? Create new techniques with the filial magic?

[folklorist]

[ Helios sighs as he rubs the back of his neck. ] I suppose that's possible. But there's only so much power that filial magic lends to its users. Even if it were possible that new technique would be more powerful being done with my own magic rather than the filial's. For-for me at least. For people without magic I suppose it's a very potent ability to use fire or water.

[misterbrief]

Yes, that's what I'd like to know more about. For those of us who do not use magic normally. That potency interests me, because from what I've come to understand about the native magic of this world is that it is not all that powerful. But it's better than nothing, and if one can create techniques even at such a lower power that would aid in combat, that would be preferable. I expect you, out of a lot of other wizards here, to know much about that.

[He was under the impression Helios was sort of a badass in this area.]

Well when it comes to new techniques and utilizing the power of filial magic, I typically like to conjoin two elements into one. For instance utilizing water of Sona with Tsinku's electricity will create a more devastating longer lasting attack. There's also combining Sona with Eferin to create a smokescreen of sorts with fog. That's how I would typically use them if-if my own magic happens to be sealed or not working.

[His ears perk up at those ideas. That's the kind of mastery he was expecting out of Helios.]

Elements you say. Tell me, what's the difficulty to call up more than one element at a time like this? [Not that it would matter much in the end because he'd make sure he could do it BUT it would be nice to know.]

[folklorist]

It depends on how long you've been using them for. I'd give it a month or two for someone just learning to be able to do it. [ He'll tap a finger on the table as he thinks. ]

But if you're familiar with wielding such powers it shouldn't take more than a few weeks at most.

[misterbrief]

A month or two. [He doesn't like the sound of that, but that's a lot better than someone telling him it might take him years to learn.]

Can't the process be sped up? That's far too long with an unpredictable enemy. [Even as he says it, he looks extremely annoyed. More at the idea of the Third Party than at the length of time.]

[folklorist]

[ Helios hunches a little. He'll shake his head and shrug his shoulders. ] I-I'm not sure? I mean it's taken my prior students that long and they've been much younger than yourself. It all depends on-on the person's natural abilities and h-how much practice they do. It's going to be varying degrees of different for everyone, you know?

[ Helios just tossed out those numbers from his own experience of training people here. ]

[misterbrief]

[He blinks a few times. Excuse you]

And what does it matter if I'm older or not? I could learn that magic faster than any of your pupils any day.

[Helios hit one of the anger triggers oops]

[folklorist]

[ Oh gods don't kill him Vegeta he didn't mean it in a derogatory or condescending way! ]

Ah! W-Well I-I just meant that you probably have more experience in-in general compared to the younger students I've t-taught. So it might not take you very l-long at all to learn what they have thus far. [ He gives a shaky smile. ]

I-I don't doubt your abilities at all. Frankly the more experience you have controlling otherworldly powers the better. When it comes to learning filial magic or even magic from another world the more experience the better.

[misterbrief]

[He gives Helios a look, not entirely buying that explanation he's given him. He can see a backpeddle a mile away.]

You're darn right it wouldn't take me long. Go ahead, name me the most difficult technique you know. I bet it would take me no time at all to get it down. [Ego challenged!]

[folklorist]

[ Oh dear. He didn't mean to offend you Vegeta. Helios looks at his hands, thinking, before responding again. ]

Ah. W-Well teleporting is a hard technique to learn. Mainly because the sigil you need to memorize is rather complex. Then there's the upper levels of actual spoken spells that mythologies use. Those are quite a handful to learn. Haietlik's strike, Dakuwaqa's bubble, and Meggido Fira are a few of them.

[misterbrief]

[He has...no idea what those are. But he doesn't care.]

Sounds simple enough. Wave my hands and speak a few words, it can't be all that difficult. [That's what Babidi did, if that little imp could do it HE CAN RIGHT?]

[folklorist]

[ Helios laughs sheepishly. If you only knew the hardships of magic casting Vegeta. ] It-it's something like that, but you have to say and do it right too. Otherwise the spell won't work or it'll backfire and hurt you in the process. There's also moderating how much power you put behind said spells too.

Ah! But-but I'm sure your own powers are like that as well. [ He's trying to not piss off Vegeta even more so than he might be. ]

[misterbrief]

Yes, in fact they are. It's exactly like that. You aren't doing yourself any favors by exerting all your energy at once. [He did that, and it killed him. He won't ever forget that.]

I'm not afraid of whatever damage is sustained from screwing up a spell. I can take that and more. [Sorry Helios you poor thing]

[folklorist]

Ah yes n-no doubt. You are a rather seasoned fighter after all. [ From what Helios could tell from the draft anyway. Vegeta would be pretty powerful wielding magic. ]

Well with that in mind m-maybe we could start you off on some simple spells, just to have you get a feel for it? I'm not denying you being able to use my more powerful spells but, ah, I think we should start simple first. [ Helios will cringe slightly at the suggestion, awaiting whatever backlash Vegeta decided to give. ]

[misterbrief]

Deal. [He peers at Helios.] But I don't want to take forever learning tiny light tricks or being able to conjure water balloons.

I'll be working on this teleportation magic right away too. [Which is funny because he only cares about proving that he can do it rather than being able to use it.]

[folklorist]

Of-of course! We can definitely adjust your training to something more your speed. It' all varies on the person and their level of expertise in magic after all.

[misterbrief]

[He folds his arms. He thinks his speed will be really, really fast. He thinks.]

Good. I will be at your home tomorrow night. Be there.

[folklorist]

Ah! A-Alright. I-I'll definitely be there. [ He'll close the cafe early he supposed. Vegeta was not a man you kept waiting. ]

We can get started on the basics tomorrow night.

[misterbrief]

Good. Then I will see you then.

[He gets up from the table, heading out the door. Probably to go fume for a bit. He'll be okay by the next day.]
