[It's been a few days since Father's Day. And he got a really nice surprise from his daughter that he never thought possible. Bulla training and honing her skills and power, it really meant something to him; so he's flipping his journal open now since Luceti played a large part of it. He's not even angry this time.]

It's come to my attention that a good number of you had a hand in the gift I received over the weekend. I will say I'm impressed- the lot of you have done the impossible with my daughter Bulla and it most certainly paid off. So for that...[His voice trails off, since saying these sorts of things isn't exactly natural to him.] For that I am grateful. I know a good portion of the time we are safe inside this barrier, but you must understand that I worry for her safety regardless.

So I suppose this is the part where I ask something else not so specific. The gift I received was for your Earthling holiday Father's Day. I've never put much stock in such things, but this last weekend certainly has changed my mind about it a little. Is this something you also observe in your own worlds? And if so, what is it that you've done or would do that you would consider worthy of your father?

[Training Bulla was something she'd promised to do not long after she'd met Vegeta, though when they'd talked about it they'd come up with some complex scheme. Saori had been pretty surprised that Bulla had just so willingly, and oddly touched at the reasons why.]

You're welcome, my friend. Bulla was a wonderful student, and I enjoyed working with her.

[He chuckles lightly, not surprised much by the response.]

I should have known. Which style did you teach her?

I promised I would, didn't I?

[She shakes her head and smiles]

Aikido and Judo. Throws to use your size and strength against you.

So that's why she was tossing me around like a paper bag. I was wondering where she'd learned that technique. [He laughs.] Yes, I suppose you did promise but I didn't think you'd actually get her to give it a go.

Well, when she put up the request, it make my job a lot easier, now didn't it? I didn't have to somehow convince her it was related to fashion.

I'm surprised. There isn't a day that goes by that anything she does outside of the act of sleeping isn't related to fashion. I spoil her far too much.

I don't think so. You're a good father, looking out for her like you do. Besides, girls that age? You can't exactly force them to do anything they don't want.

Don't remind me. Trying to get her out of bed yesterday was a terror on its own. [And he failed miserably at it too.]

Well she's had some training now. You could always...flip the bed.

[An amusing thought, that.]

You know that's not such a bad idea. Maybe I will. If I'll do it to her brother then I can do it to her too. [Saori what have you done, Bulla is going to be so irritated when her father dumps her out of bed.] Maybe I should ask you for devious ideas more often, Saori.

[She's a big girl...]

Oh I'm not really good at that sort of thing. It's just something I think my father would've done for me when I was younger, that's all.

[She's a big girl who's totally spoiled. Thankfully not spoiled rotten.] Sounds like he and I would get along pretty well.

[He laughs.] The two of you must of had a very close relationship. [While it lasted, of course. He's not interested in digging up bad memories.]

Perhaps, he was fairly traditional but he was nothing if not easy to get along with.

[She nods. Her parents aren't exactly a sad memory, just how they died.]

I would say we did. He's the one that set me on the course to make me who I am today.

He wouldn't of been a good father if he hadn't now would he. [Man, something he learned the hard way.]

True enough, though there are some who take more after their mothers. I was lucky, and got the best of both worlds.

What about you, Vegeta? What was your father like?

Ah, well...[He wasn't really expecting the conversation to get focused on his childhood.]

As you already know I lost him as a small boy, so I don't remember much nor knew him very well. But he was a great and proud leader as king of our people. No man could stand up to his might. Ha, he always told me if I trained hard enough I'd enter the ranks of greatness. And he was right. Though I can't imagine this is exactly what he expected of me.

Well, I don't know about that. I think every parent wants their children to be good parents too. I'm sure your father would approve of Bulla, even moreso now. And he'd probably be proud of you for having her.

[He guesses he can agree with that, his dad would probably be very proud of his grandchildren but he's not so sure if he'd approve of the way they'd been brought up.]

...Perhaps, but Saiyans were not raised like humans, Saori. As a warrior race, we were measured for our power when we were born, and the weakest of us were sent to far distant planets. My father sent my own brother off to a remote world because of his lack of power. Tarble never knew him and I don't believe my father cared. So the fact that she has barely any training whatsoever? I'm not so sure. King Vegeta wasn't exactly an understanding man.

I wasn't exactly raised by humans, myself, Vegeta. It's just a parental instinct though. Even animals have it. Though your father, what I saw of his shade anyway, seemed to be different you're probably right.

But I'd find it hard to believe that Bulla would fail to impress.

[He thought for a second- Tarble was around long enough for Vegeta to at least remember him, perhaps father simply couldn't act like he cared because of his station. Who knew, something now lost to time itself.]

Well, she is my daughter, born with a Saiyan heart and a human spirit. She might even give him a run for his money. Even half-Saiyans aren't something to be trifled with, believe me.

It's funny, isn't it? "Human Spirit" is a phrase that gets used a lot.

They really are a spirited race, aren't they?

After living there as long as I have I'd say there's a good reason why that phrase is used. They may not all be fighters but they've pulled through when we needed them to.

I've said it once and I'll say it again; if there's anything I've learned it's not to underestimate the human race. Though sometimes they do act like children who need to be spoon fed. [He says that last sentence with a little grouch in his tone.]
